“Health care is a Right, not a Privilege.” ~Edward Kennedy
Health(Swasthyam)
Health is indeed a right and not a privilege that meant only for the privileged ones. Every human being deserves to carry a state of good health. Moreover, here, by right health, we not only mean the physical heartiness or absence of diseases but a state of holistic health, care, and hygiene that is an overall balanced well-being state. Health is the real wealth, only when an individual is healthy, he/she can work and contribute efficiently. Gautama Buddha had very aptly preached that “to keep the body in good health is a duty; otherwise, we shall not be able to keep our mind strong and clear.” Health care is an intrinsic component and one of the imperative concerns of every society, community, and nation. Maintaining and sustaining excellent public health is one of the prime occurrences because it directly affects the growth and development of a country. Holistic public health does not only include the physical aspect but also involve environmental, physiological, emotional, social and pro preventive elements. There are numerous of significant factors, which influence the public health such as food, public surroundings, households, water, sanitation, general and personal hygiene, medication, & vaccinations, even education and awareness too.

WHY?
The public health status of India is quite uncertain, the unprivileged populations including the scheduled castes and tribes, slum householders, rural people, handicapped and disabled people, poor women and children, and other backward classes have a challenging and unlikable state of health with substandard medical, sanitation, hygiene care provided. Poverty is an enormous misery that has divided the population of India into distinctive groups of advantaged and disadvantaged. Lack of education also has contributed to raising the miseries; illiterate people are not aware and alert about health care. They rarely find any wrong with their filthy and suffocated households and dwellings. The scenario is at its worst in slums where people are living under terrible circumstances. These unprivileged people suffer a detriment of sufficient medical facilities, sanitation, clean water supply, education, shelter and housing, food and other necessities. Social and economic disparities have also backed to the shallow health state of unprivileged people in our country. There is an evident disparity in the health status of rural and urban areas. Children and women living in rural areas are more prone to diseases, poor sanitation, malnutrition, hunger, female feticide, and discrimination whereas health status of the urban regions is still exceeding. There persists an unfinished burden of communicable diseases like Tuberculosis, AIDS, Diarrhea, and Malaria along with a need of contributory infrastructural work
GOAL
Matri Prerna Foundation aims at improving the quality of life of the unprivileged children and people by supporting and motivating healthcare facilities. The Foundation aims to promote health programs, campaigns and activities in rural and backward areas to spread awareness and educate people about hygiene and well-being. We seek to collaborate and join hands with medical practitioners and highly intellectual people to promote and implement preventive and leading health activities to enforce good public health and raise the standard of health environment among the unprivileged.
